What happened

Landlord applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict Tenant due to failure to pay rent. The Tenant did not receive the Notice of Hearing and did not have a reasonable opportunity to attend the initial hearing. The Tenant has not paid the full rent owed from April 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019, leading the Landlord to serve a Notice of Termination effective September 17, 2019.

The ruling

The tenancy is terminated effective December 15, 2020 unless the Tenant pays $9,005 to void the eviction order and continue the tenancy. If the Tenant does not pay the full amount owing of $8,150.72 plus $16.27 per day starting December 9, 2020 by December 19, 2020, the Tenant will start owing interest and the Landlord may file the order with the Court Enforcement Office for enforcement.
